Napili ng Department of Education (DepEd) ang GMA Network upang maging katuwang sa mas malawak at mas epektibong distant learning matapos nitong ihayag na mapapanood na ang DepEd TV sa isang digital channel ng GMA affordabox simula ngayong Disyembre.
Pinirmahan ang isang Memorandum of Agreement noong December 4,2020 sa isang virtual meeting na pinangunahan nina GMA Network Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Felipe L. Gozon, President and Chief Operating Officer Gilberto R. Duavit Jr. at DepEd Secretary Leonor Mr. Briones
Libre at walang bayad na ipapagamit ng GMA Network ang isang digital channel na available sa GMA Affordabox upang maipalabas ang mga Educational Content ng DepEd TV upang maabot ang mga mag-aaral na mahina o walang access sa internet.
Ayon sa DepEd Secretary Leonor M. Briones, mahalaga ang gagampanan ng GMA dahil sa lawak ng naaabot ng network na ito .
“GMA Network recognizes the challenges our country faces in the middle of this pandemic and will do its part to support the country’s efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19 while continuing to enrich the lives of Filipinos in ways that we can. It is, therefore, our honor and privilege to join forces with the Department of Education and provide our TV platform for free to enable our young learners access to broadcast education while keeping them safe at home,” ani ni Gozon.
