What are Summative Tests or Assessments?
Before we download the files, let us know first what is a summative test or assessment is. According to study.com, The definition of summative assessment is any method of evaluation performed at the end of a unit that allows a teacher to measure a student’s understanding, typically against standardized criteria. The purpose of summative assessment is to gauge students’ comprehension of the material presented at the end of a particular unit of work, and is often measured with a grade or percentage, depending on the subject.
Furthermore, cmu.edu said that the goal of summative assessment is to evaluate student learning at the end of an instructional unit by comparing it against some standard or benchmark. Summative assessments are often high stakes, which means that they have a high point value.

What is MELC?
These summative tests are based on the MELC provided by the Department of Education, but what are they?
According to DepEd, “essential learning competencies are defined as what the students need, considered indispensable, in the teaching-learning process to building skills to equip learners for subsequent grade levels and subsequently, for lifelong learning. On the other hand, desirable learning competencies were defined as what may enhance education but may not be necessary in building foundational skills.”
They continued, “with the challenges on learning delivery posed by Covid-19, the Bureau of Curriculum Development accelerated the identification of the essential learning competencies, and streamlined these further into the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELCs).”

With that, we hope that everyone will take precautionary measures against COVID-19, so that when it is time for face-to-face classes, everyone is present. Lots of love from Teacher Tayo admins.
