The Department of Education (DepEd) is extending the school year 2020-2021 up to July 10, 2021 through an official order following the previously proposed 2-week break for the current and next school year. The end of this school year was originally set on June 11,2021.

The adjustment of end of school year will also adjust the third quarter which will now be from March 22 to May 15, with the former from May 17 to July 10.

According to DepEd,”there has been an identified need to address learning gaps” for learners to meet the learning competencies it has set.

“These learning gaps are attributable to reduced academic opportunities at home and substantial loss of live contact with teachers,” Secretary Leonor Briones said.

Meanwhile, the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) conveyed its concern regarding labor issues and mental health both to teachers and learners.
