  • by

In this post, we are going to compare the top 10 highest paying career in the Philippines to four other countries, namely – United States, Canada, Japan and South Korea.

This list of top 10 highest paying career in the Philippines is taken from salaryexplorer.com.

In making this list they noted that, “in order to have diversity in the list and to make it as extensive as possible, we grouped similar jobs together. If we just displayed the highest salaries in descending order, then the list would have mostly consisted of top-level surgeons.”

South Korean Won to Philippine Peso: ₱0.043
Japan Yen to Philippine Peso: ₱0.44

1. Surgeons / Doctors

United States: $400,918 or ₱19,375,142
Canada C$194,032 or ₱7,489,296

Japan: 26,958,674 JPY or ₱11,823,060
South Korea: 232,985,075 KRW or ₱10,025,739

I am quite baffled here, tbh. What do you think is the reason that CEO’s here in the Philippines are paid way less than the other four mentioned countries?

6. Chief Financial Officers

Philippines: ₱1,114,800
United States: $272,803 or ₱13,183,735
Canada C$240,136 or ₱9,268,830

Japan: 25,987,459 JPY or ₱11,397,122
South Korea: 126,959,884 KRW or ₱5,463,297

Just a little info about what an orthodontists does for those just like me who doesn’t know about it. According to wikipedia.org, “orthodontics is a specialty of dentistry that deals with the diagnosis, prevention, and correction of malpositioned teeth and jaws, and misaligned bite patterns.”

8. College Professors

Philippines: ₱955,200
United States: $104,444 or ₱5,047,459
Canada C$107,894 or ₱4,164,520
Japan: 9,542,014 JPY or ₱4,184,768
South Korea: 55,051,732 KRW or ₱2,368,968

On the website where I’ve taken the salaries from other countries (my source for the Philippines is different, it was mentioned above), there was no “College Professor” keyword. There were only “Professor” and “Teacher College/University.” I’ve chosen the “Professor” keyword or job title.

The same case with the next two.

9. Pilots

Philippines: ₱796,800
United States: $83,250 or ₱4,023,218
Canada C$92,071 or ₱3,553,779
Japan: 7,631,523 JPY or ₱3,346,899
South Korea: 47,487,979 KRW or ₱2,043,487

10. Marketing Directors

Philippines: ₱716,400
United States: $131,899 or ₱6,374,275
Canada C$92,071 or ₱3,553,779
Japan: 10,779,136 JPY or ₱4,727,323
South Korea: 71,591,963 KRW or ₱3,080,722

If you’ve noticed, the other four countries that we are comparing to are much more well developed countries compared to the Philippines. So, even if the salaries are quite high, we should always take into consideration the cost of living in each places.

In the future, I will also make a comparison to other countries that are on the same status as the Philippines.

So what do you guys think? Tell me in the comment section.
