  • by

Times Higher Education’s highly anticipated Asia University Ranking for 2023 has been released, revealing four Philippine universities that have cemented their places in this prestigious list. The rankings, released on Thursday, include 669 institutions from 31 different locations.

The Philippine universities that earned a spot in the rankings are Ateneo de Manila University, positioned at 84th, University of the Philippines, within the 201-250 range, De La Salle University, falling between 501-600, and Mapua University, ranked above 601.

Ateneo de Manila University further distinguished itself as the top Philippine institution in Times Higher Education’s IMPACT Rankings. The IMPACT Rankings, released earlier on June 1, 2023, measure universities’ global performance in delivering the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

In addition to these four ranked institutions, six more Philippine universities have been acknowledged under the “reporter” status. These include Cebu Technological University, Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology, University of Santo Tomas, University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines, Tarlac Agricultural University, and Visayas State University. The reporter status signifies that these universities actively participate in the ranking process despite not being officially ranked.

The process to rank universities is comprehensive and balanced, according to Times Higher Education. Universities are evaluated based on their core missions, which include teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.

This ranking highlights the continuous efforts of Philippine universities to provide quality education and contribute to global knowledge and innovation. As the institutions celebrate their achievements, they continue to aim for more significant improvements and milestones in the future.

The recognition of these universities indicates that the Philippine higher education system is increasingly competitive and is continually striving to enhance its position in the Asia Pacific region and globally.

The participation and recognition of these universities in the rankings serve as a significant benchmark and a source of pride for the Philippines, demonstrating the high standard and dedication to quality education in the country.
